The Festival of Quilts

The definitive event for anyone with a love of stitch and crafts, supplies, workshops and textile art

Upcycling Academy

Turn something old into something new!

Once again the Upcycling Academy, headed by Barley Massey of Fabrications, brings alternative creative ideas to the show. They offer a range of projects from rosette making to knitting with waste fabric, plus customisation of clothing and lots of other inspiring ideas to bring life to old cast-offs!

This year Fabrications, TRAID and War on Want are joined by the Craftivist Collective whose manifesto is

‘To expose the scandal of global poverty, and human rights injustices though the power of craft and public art. This will be done through provocative, non-violent creative actions’.

Who would have thought The Knitting and Stitching Shows could help fight social injustice!!

If you’re a teacher this is the perfect place to bring your students – get them thinking while they’re being creative. We ask for a small donation to take part, but you’ll leave feeling fired up and crafty!

The Upcycling partners have all contributed to a Teachers Resource Pack which will be available from this page from September.

Upcycling is now located in the Panorama Room (turn right from the West Hall Corridor).
