11am: Molly Brown: Lovely Leaves, Free Motion Embroidery

Join Molly for this 2-hour session and play away with free motion embroidery on your sewing machine. You will learn the basics of free motion embroidery from how to set up your machine to three ways to create lovely leaves. You will get tips on using soluble fabrics, how to make solid leaves, leaves on net and leaf skeletons each using different techniques. Tickets available to purchase here.

2pm: Judith Johnson: Intro to Pattern Drafting, Blouse Design-Along

In this workshop, you will have a sample bodice template and will design a blouse. You will also be shown alternative design options, even if you don’t currently have a personal basic pattern block, you will see how easy it can be to design clothes for yourself.

The skills learned can then be used on a bodice block/sloper that fits you. Whilst this isn’t a sewing instruction class you will receive an illustrated document showing the construction steps. We will also look at what is needed to make clothes that fit.

4:30 pm: Steffi Stern: Needle Felting, Proud Peacock

Needle Felt a beautiful peacock from an ‘all-in’ kit from The Makerss. You will learn how to wrap wool around wire, shaping with wool by using a felting needle and wool batts, adding features and details and mixing fibres. All whilst learning about the materials and tools you’re using. The finished size of the peacock is about 12cm tall. Suitable for beginners, new to Needle Felting. 11am: Jill Kipnis: Embroidered 3D Flower and Leaf Wired Shapes

Join Jill for a relaxed two-hour session and learn the process of making 3D petals and leaves for your embroidery. You will learn to create 3D wired shapes for future projects, how to insert the shapes into an embroidered background and how to work long and short stitch. Tickets available to purchase here.

2pm: Juliet Uzor: Sew your Own Sweatshirt

In this fun and practical workshop, Sewing Bee 2019 winner Juliet Uzor will take you step-by-step through making a comfy and casual sweatshirt, using a brand new pattern from Tilly and the Buttons.

We will be making version 1 of the Billie pattern, a classic sweatshirt with crew neckline, cuffed straight sleeves and hem band (UK sizes 6-24). It’s the perfect snuggly top for the winter! You will learn how to construct the sweatshirt from start to finish on a regular sewing machine (no overlocker required).

4:30pm: Kate Khullar: Pom Pom Christmas Wreath with Baubles & Bow

Join Kate from Little Dot Loves for a fun session to make your own pom pom wreath. You will be using a wreath base and five colours of yarn. Kate will show how to make the pompoms and use a hot glue gun to build up the wreath adding baubles as well.

10:30am: Fi Oberon: Contemporary Hand Embroidery, Cow Parsley Motif

Fi Oberon will use demonstrations, diagrams and conversation to teach you how and when to use stem, back stitch and French knots following a cow parsley design.

She will cover how to choose suitable fabric for embroidery, the benefits and drawbacks of different types and discuss some methods of transferring designs onto fabric.

1pm: Sarah Burnett-Moore: Christmas ‘Kusudama’ Japanese Origami Bauble

Using decorative paper and thread/yarn we will use an old Japanese origami technique to make 60 petals then assemble five of the petals into a flower and then use all 12 flowers to make a Kusudama (Flower Ball).

We will then make a tassel and add it together with a loop for hanging. Traditionally these were hand-sewn but we will use PVA.

3:30pm: Monica Russel: Have Fun and Knit Fair Isle with Confidence

In this two hour workshop you will gain the confidence to knit fair isle. You will produce a fair Isle sample that will enable you to go on to knit any variety of exciting projects.

You will learn how to change wool colours in a row, using straight and circular needles, how to get the tension correct, and how to read a knitting chart plus how to use your own stash for colour-work using different makes of yarn. Monica will also cover how to sew in ends. She will show you how fair isle can be part of an item or a complete project.

11am: Tunisian Crochet – Basics and Beyond

Make a pair of mitts with Diana using a beautiful Tunisian Crochet simple stitch, Tunisian knit and purl stitches and how to use these in combination for a honeycomb stitch. This workshop is aimed at people who are interested in starting Tunisian Crochet or may have tried before but would like to go further than simple stitch. Suitable for those able to hold a crochet hook and yarn and make a chain and double crochet. Tickets available to purchase here.

2pm: Goldwork Mini 3D Bumble Bee

Join Georgina, a well-known embroidery artist, designer and tutor to make this cute mini 3D goldwork bumble bee in a live digital workshop from Beyond K&S. You will be working pad work to create a 3D stumpwork shape, applying pearl purl, cutwork and using metal threads, otherwise known as chipping. Tickets available to purchase here.

4:30pm: Beginner’s Rag Rug Christmas Wreath

Have fun turning old clothing and fabric offcuts into a gorgeous shaggy rag rug wreath with author and rag rug expert, Elspeth Jackson. Learn the skills to be able to make rag rugs for yourself at home, including how to prepare materials, how to work with the tools and how to build successful rag rug designs. 11am: Knit your own Felted Slippers

Join Irene de Jong and learn the very basics of knitting whilst starting to make a funky pair of Norwegian style felt slippers. Irene will start with casting on and knitting in the garter stitch. You will learn how to follow this very simple pattern for the slippers and how to assemble them once you finished your knitting. You will be given full instructions for the felting once the slippers are finished. Felting is a lot of fun and perfect for beginner knitters as any small mistakes will be hidden after the felting is completed. Tickets available to purchase here.

2pm: Free Motion Embroidery Flower Meadow

In this workshop Wendy will show you how to ‘draw’ with your thread, using a basic domestic sewing machine. You will work on a sample piece, practising different stitches for foliage and flowers and then create a small flower meadow picture which can be mounted in a frame or as a greetings card. Basic materials and equipment will be required for this exciting technique, but no experience is necessary. Why not have a go; it really is easier than you may think if you follow the simple guidelines. It’s a fun class and Wendy will provide tips along the way. Tickets available to purchase here.

4:30pm: Make a Macramé Plant Hanger

Macramé is so on-trend now. Join Katie Mitchell from By-Me and learn how to make a macramé plant hanger from start to finish. Be warned though once you start you will be hooked on Macramé! You will be taken through each step, from choosing your cord, learning the wrapped, spiral and square knot to finishing and trimming and then testing your newly made plant hanger with your own plant and pot. Along the way Katie will share a variety of macramé tips and techniques during this 90-minute session. Suitable for beginners, new to macramé. Tickets available to purchase here.

11am: Make your own Comfy PJ Shorts

Making your own pyjama bottom shorts has its benefits. Besides saving money, one can work with soft fabric that is easy to sew and find the colour and print of your choice. This is a fun class where you can master a range of the sewing techniques whilst making ladies or men’s pyjamas. You will learn to use and read a dressmaking pattern, how to prepare the fabric and cut out the pieces, how to finish raw edges, how to insert elastic at the waist and how to hem. 2pm: Embroidered 3D Stumpwork: Jungle Leaves

This workshop will introduce one of the most exciting and fun styles of embroidery – stumpwork. Kate will take you through each step needed to create a simple leaf design, manipulating the wire, creating a neat and secure buttonhole stitch edge, embellishing and decorating your shape, careful cutting out and how to attach your slip to your textile work. 4:30pm: Punch Needlework for Beginners

Punch needle is a type of embroidery using a hollow needle, you use this needle to punch through the fabric to create loops. It creates an effect similar to a hooked rug which makes an interesting design and texture. Lucy will teach you how to use the punch needle and create this beautiful botanical hoop art.

The class will cover how to stretch your fabric and transfer the design, how to combine different yarns so you can create different effects and textures and how to finish off. Tickets available to purchase here.
