Make a Macrame Plant Hanger

By Katie Mitchell, By-Me

About

Macramé is so on-trend now. Katie Mitchell from By-Me shows how to make a macramé plant hanger from start to finish. Be warned though once you start you will be hooked on Macramé! You will be taken through each step, from choosing your cord, learning the wrapped, spiral and square knot to finishing and trimming and then testing your newly made plant hanger with your own plant and pot. Along the way, Katie will share a variety of macramé tips and techniques during this 90-minute session. Suitable for beginners, new to macramé.

Materials

Materials can be purchased from suppliers of the Beyond K&S Shopping Hub, available here: www.theknittingandstitchingshow.com/shopping-hub.

Macrame

You will need:

  • 25 metres of cord ideally 5mm thick, but any chunky cord will be fine. Avoid using wool as it’s quite difficult to knot.
  • Wooden Ring – you can use a wooden curtain ring from any DIY store (55mm diameter)
  • Tape measure/ruler
  • Scissors
  • An S hook (optional)
  • Pot and plant to try your new creation.
  • Somewhere to hang your hanger – which makes it easier to handle when making knots. Suggestions are: a clothes rail/clothes horse or airer, a hook on the back of the door/ back of the chair. Preferably at chest level if possible
