About

Macramé is so on-trend now. Join Katie Mitchell from By-Me and learn how to make a macramé plant hanger from start to finish. Be warned though once you start you will be hooked on Macramé! You will be taken through each step, from choosing your cord, learning the wrapped, spiral and square knot to finishing and trimming and then testing your newly made plant hanger with your own plant and pot. Along the way Katie will share a variety of macramé tips and techniques during this 90-minute session. Suitable for beginners, new to macramé.

Materials

Materials can be purchased from suppliers of the Beyond K&S Shopping Hub, available here: www.theknittingandstitchingshow.com/shopping-hub.

Alternatively, a kit is available from the tutor, called DNA Plant Hanger, priced at £14.99 with a choice of four colours.

Macrame

Bookers will receive full joining instructions and a session materials list. Plus, there will also be details of patterns, advance preparation guides and links of where kits can be purchased if these are applicable to your session.

You will need:

  • 25 metres of cord ideally 5mm thick, but any chunky cord will be fine. Avoid using wool as it’s quite difficult to knot.
  • Wooden Ring – you can use a wooden curtain ring from any DIY store (55mm diameter)
  • Tape measure/ruler
  • Scissors
  • An S hook (optional)
  • Pot and plant to try your new creation.
  • Somewhere to hang your hanger – which makes it easier to handle when making knots. Suggestions are: a clothes rail/clothes horse or airer, a hook on the back of the door/ back of the chair. Preferably at chest level if possible
