An exhibition of Modern Sampler Quilts is the latest collection of original quilts to be displayed by The Quilters’ Guild. “Easy to make and flexible in layout with a fresh modern look”. That was the brief behind the Modern Sampler project designed by Helen Howes and published in The Quilter magazine over 4 issues from autumn 2017 to summer 2018.
Guild members took up the challenge, basing their designs around four basic quilt blocks with names like “Floating Stones” and “Wonky Star”, which encompassed improvisational piecing, bold colour choices, variation of scale and original layouts. Some chose to make small wall hangings, others chose lap quilt size formats. Colour schemes vary from monochromatic to bright and bold. The quilts shown in this exhibition highlight the imaginative design ideas and skills that these Quilters’ Guild members can be proud of.
