House of Quinn: FORMATIONS

Julius Arthur of House of Quinn presents Formations, a series of works that explores a connection to place, object, material, and process. ‘Formations’ draws upon multifaceted concepts that encompass the creation and shaping of various entities, from geological features to personal identities. Through play with shape, form, abstraction, and assemblage, ‘Formations’ explores the artist’s connection to their surroundings and experiences.

Julius’s work involves techniques that are not complicated, working within the constraints of his surroundings and the materials at hand, generating a sense of creative resourcefulness, a thread that Julius explores in his work. It reflects a return to the simplicity and ingenuity of experimentation, where a need to create with limited resources often fuels innovation and, in doing so, may lead to the discovery of unexpected textures, colours, and forms.

Composed of found and renewed textiles, Julius’ works with oddments, remnants that have been collected along the way. Exploring textiles and traditional craft processes to construct contemporary design narratives and ideas within his work.
