Make a Waistcoat from Old Trousers
with Mark Francis
In this demonstration, Mark Francis, (Great British Sewing Bee Contestant), will showed you how to transform an old pair of trousers into a lovely new waistcoat. Over the course of 30 minutes he went through how to deconstruct the trousers and which features to consider reusing and begin to construct the garment. The main steps of the rest of the process were discussed and questions were taken from the audience.
Bags for Life: In Conversation
with Stuart Hillard
Craft personality and Sewing Bee Star Stuart Hillard shared his crafty adventures, why he is currently obsessed about bag making and behind the scenes insights into The Great British Sewing Bee. Stuart showed some of his favourite projects from his new book Bags for Life and share his top tips for making bags that are useful, practical and stylish. Sharing his passion for sewing and making, he encouraged you to be ‘bag lady’ or ‘bag man’ and start your journey into making bags that are just as unique as you are.
How to Use Jenerates Seam Circles and Sewing Rulers
with Jen Hogg
Jen Hogg, from The Great British Sewing Bee 2019, has designed her own unique sewing tools. She demonstrated how to use the Jenerates Seam Circles and Sewing Ruler to easily add or take away seam and hem allowances in everyday garment sewing, and to draft facings too. With added top sewing tips from Jen’s popular “Hogg Hacks” series on social media.
The Making of Nudinits
with Sarah Simi & Ed Hartwell
Nudinits is the hilarious, award-winning, knitted animation and book series set in the bare-bottomed village of Woolly Bush. In this session, nudinits creator Sarah Simi and stop motion animator Ed Hartwell gave you a unique glimpse into how they bring the much-loved characters to life for screen and photographs. They showed clips from the animation along with a real time example of how to animate with wool, fabric and felt. Sarah will also introduce the latest nudinits book Fun and Frolics in Woolly Bush, featuring 25 knitting patterns celebrating village life and packed with the usual nudinits innuendos. The session was followed by a Q&A and book signing.
Knitting and Stitching with Tree Bark
with Jen Cable
Jen helped you explore the textile art possibilities of tree bark including birch, willow, eucalyptus and plane. Discover bark as a surface for stitch, as fabric for quilting or as a thread for knitting or weaving. Learn how to prepare and protect the bark to avoid breakage during construction and ensure a long display life. Be inspired by works that Jen has created to begin your own tree bark projects.
