Jessie Chorley: Stories, Drawings, Marks & Experiments

Stories, Drawings, Marks and Experiments celebrates a new and evolving collection of hand stitched, experimental and narrative work by London embroidery artist Jessie Chorley. The title is inspired by Jessie’s free and intuitive approach to drawing with needle, fabric and thread: a process which she considers to be a form of drawing.

This is the artist’s first significant solo exhibition and features both finished works and pieces in development.

Jessie’s use of found and pre-used fabric is prominent in her new work. It’s important to the artist that her base fabrics are richly embedded with a previous life. Marks and signs of wear and tear become part of the works and part of her stories, as does the act and process of looking for cloth.

The work featured has been made between 2020-2024, with the majority stitched since Jessie moved to her South London studio in 2021. The relocation was a creative as much as a physical move, impelled by Jessie’s desire to free up precious making time.

Jessie will also be launching her much-anticipated book Journal with Thread during the show. Signed copies will be available in her gallery.
