Meet the Maker - Paula Clark

How did it all start?

Cocoon&me is a small family run business and was established in January 2017.

Paula, the founder, & creative force behind Cocoon&me, decided to follow her long held dream of running her own creative business, after spending many years as a Knitwear designer in the fashion industry.

Working with planet friendly materials we create unique Craft Kits using artisanal technics such as Crochet & Macramé. Over the past couple of years Cocoon&me has been exploring the therapeutic benefits of crafting, developing our fun open Workshops as well as Private parties & Corporate Events.

The story behind the name…

The name Cocoon&me comes from the happy COCOONING feeling that crafting brings but also from the product that we create.

Where are you based?

Cocoon&me is based in Brighton on the south coast of England.

What are your plans for the next 12 months?

To expand our kit collection & increase workshops for both private & corporate events.

What is your biggest achievement?

Paula is especially proud of all the positive response & relationships she has made by inspiring people to create both at her Workshops or from her unique Kits.

What is your best-selling product/line?

Our crochet storage basket remains our most popular Kit & Workshop, we think that this is done to its simple design, clear instructions & you finish up with a beautiful basket this is also very practical!

Your experience of your first Knitting & Stitching Show (year, exhibiting or visiting)

In 2019 I was lucky enough to be sponsored by Bobbiny our recycled cotton yarn supplier, this meant we could take a stand for the first time at The Knitting & Stitching Show, after its success we have attended every show since.

What do you love about the Knitting & Stitching Shows?

Meeting people, & the enthusiasm of everyone you talk to who just want to be inspired & love to create.

Your three top tips for crafters and makers…

  • Just have a go & learn something new.
  • Enjoy the creative process, it doesn’t have to be perfect.
  • Simplicity, a lot of the best designs shouldn’t be complicated, well-balanced colour, pattern or texture create the best products!

Any advice for fledgling businesses…

Well, it’s very tough at the moment, start small, learn who your customers are & cater for them, whilst keeping something unique about what you do.
